Fashion in the streets of La Paz, Baja California Sur
March 8, 2017
Last post I talked about the serendipitous meeting with Angie, owner of Georgie Girl in Kelowna, BC. We decided to do a styled fashion shoot together. This time, we wanted a Mexican but urban setting – the streets of La Paz, capital of Baja California Sur. I put out a casting call, and Angie homed in immediately on her desired model, Flor. Flor had almost no experience, but she did have the fresh look Angie wanted. On top of that, since Angie did not bring clothing especially for shooting, we needed to use her own clothes and Flor matched Angie in size.
It is always harder with an inexperienced model to get to good photos quickly, but Flor broke through her initial nervousness quickly, and we managed to make some striking and varied imagery in the 3 hour session. Unusually for La Paz, the wind was very cold, and it picked up as the day wore on. By the time we ht the beach, Flor was freezing, but gamely continued until I pulled the plug soon afterwards. No matter how hard a model tries, if they are physically uncomfortable, it affects the pictures after a while. I also want the experience to be a positive one for all involved!
Angie will use the images for her shop in Canada. Here is a selection of my favorites, taken with a mixture of the high resolution fullframe Pentax K1 camera and vintage design lenses, and my “baby” travel camera, a Fuji X100T. I wonder of you can tell which are from each camera?
